Photo Competition Update #2

I wanted to let you guys know that I have finally made up mind as to what photo I'm going to enter into the State Fair's photo competition this year. As you know from my last update, I had the choices narrowed down to two. Well, after some thought (and editing with Picasa) I thought the best pic was the one of the Brooklyn Bridge. I honestly loved that picture from day one but I didn't want to jump the gun like I did last year. This photo has great depth and clarity to it and, in my opinion, is a great picture. Hopefully the judges will think the same! So, do you want to see the final product? Here it is...

What's next? I've sent the pic to be printed and then I'll frame it and ship it to the Fair. Judging will be October 10 and 12.

Are You Kidding? Part 6

This one, I'll admit, cracked me up a bit. Apparently embattled celebrity, Lindsay Lohan, has sued rapper Pitbull over the use of her name in his hit song "Give Me Everything." Pitbull told Rolling Stone that the line in question ("I got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan") was "not meant to be taken so harshly." According to Pitbull, "locked up" means that you "run the area." Pitbull apologized to Lohan for the mishap and even invited her to be his date to the "MTV Video Music Awards" but she decided to sue the rapper and turn down his offer.

What cracked me up about the whole thing was what Lohan's lawsuit affirmed. It states that the lyric caused her "irreparable harm" and "damaged her image." Ok what? I hate to rag on people (and I think Lindsay's situation is bad) but I thought her image and reputation were already damaged. Just saying!

Photo Competition Update #1

Over the course of the photo competition, I will give you updates on things that are happening. Hopefully, I'll be writing to you soon saying that I won something but who knows? Anyway, I have it down to two photos for the competition. The first is a variation of the Brooklyn Bridge photo...

The second is a variation of the photo from the Durham Bulls game...

Feel free to comment if you want, but my personal favorite is the Brooklyn Bridge. Like I said, I hope I can actually win something this year but I'll just have to wait and see.

The Wrong Place

This week's Oops Award is pretty much a no-brainer (and ironic). NASCAR driver, Kyle Busch, wins for actually losing his license after being caught speeding.

Just two days after winning his fourth Sprint Cup race of the season, Kyle Busch plead guilty in a NC court to going 128 mph in 45 mph speed zone. His NC license was suspended, he was fined $1,000, and sentenced to 30 hours of community service for his wrongdoing.

I don't know if he thought he was at a race or what but, Kyle, maybe you should keep that kind of stuff on the track next time!

$50,000 Mixup

Here is a pretty cool story for the Oops Award of the week. An 11-year-old boy from Minnesota, Nate Smith, participated in a contest where he had to shoot a hockey puck from 89 feet out into a small goal. If he made it, he would win $50,000. The boy stepped up and made the ridiculous shot. There was only one problem: his twin brother, Nick was supposed to take the shot.

Their dad bought three raffle tickets to enter his kids into the competition but it was Nick who actually got the chance to make the shot. However, his brother stepped in his place when he stepped outside. Their father later came clean about what happened, saying he wanted to set a "good example" to his kids about honesty. It's still being debated whether the boys will receive the prize money or not.

Wow! This was a pretty big mixup. I think the famiily should get the money anyway because they were honest (a rare thing these days) and it wasn't like they planned it on purpose. Plus, the twins said they will use the money for college so at least it'll be for a good thing!

I Need You!

I've decided to enter the NC State Fair Photo Competition once again this year. However, I'm going to try something new and get some help from you guys! I've dwindled the possible photos down to ten and I need your help in deciding which one I should enter in the competition.
