#Wedding

Posted on 20:59 by Unknown
A wedding is suppose to be one of the happiest days of your life. Why not live tweet it? For those of you in the Stone Age of technology, "live tweet" means that people go on Twitter and tweet about an event they're at as it happens. A couple in New York decided to share their day with the world by, yes, live tweeting their wedding.

The bride, Caroline Waxler, created the hashtag #waxlevittwedding on Twitter and invited guests to chime in alongside her and her groom, Michael Levitt. When asked about the idea, Waxler said "Through Twitter, all of [my guests'] wedding memories become my wedding memories." Can't fault her there but this still gets my Oops Award for the week!

NMM: Punching Bag

Posted on 21:00 by Unknown
One of my favorite country artists is Josh Turner. Not only for his music but his faith as well. His new album, Punching Bag is very well thought out and written, like his other albums.

Punching Bag even includes an introduction by legendary boxing announcer, Michael Buffer. Turner also collaborates on songs with Iris DeMent, Marty Stuart, and Ricky Skaggs. The new album features some more heart felt ballads as well as traditional, foot stomping country tunes he's been known for. One of those is the title track. Have a listen!

Doers Of The Word

You know, a church body should not only be there as a building or a bunch of people. The church should, first off, worship God but also carry out His message. That's exactly what a church in Selma, NC did as they helped a teen get a prosthetic leg.

Seventeen year old, Charles Humphries, was diagnosed with bone cancer, eventually forcing doctors to amputate his right leg. The athlete was sidelined until his church, Wilson's Mills Baptist Church, was able to raise thousands of dollars to give Humphries a brand new, high performance prosthetic. The new leg made life much easier for the teen who had been struggling with his old prosthetic.

Although the new leg cost $70,000 the church was able to raise all the money through months of fundraisers spearheaded by fellow church member, Keith Branch. Last Friday, Charles was finally fitted for the new leg. Like the Bible says, we should all not just be listeners of the Word but doers as well. I think this church is a great example.

Let It Out

Picture of Nalbandian and the injured line judge
Tennis has never been known as a contact sport. That is, until David Nalbandian came along. Nalbandian was playing in a crucial tennis match against Marin Cilic when he hit the ball wide, making him lose. Nalbandian decided to take out his frustration on a line judge sitting on the side of the court by kicking him violently in the leg.

Apparently, Nalbandian has a big anger management problem as he was fined in January for throwing water on a judge. This time, officials disqualified him, making Cilic the winner by default. I know everyone gets frustrated and angry when things don't go their way but, was it really worth it?

NMM: Without Your Love

Posted on 21:00 by Unknown
First off, I want to apologize for the void of blog posts in the past week. I have been in the process of moving over the past couple weeks and, last week, I was without Internet and time so I failed to write really any posts. I'm getting back on track this week, starting with a fresh tune from MercyMe. They are one of my favorite Christian groups and I wanted to profile one of the songs off their new album.

The song is called "Without Your Love" and it's awesome. The message of the song is great in that it says we can't do anything without having God's love and support. Have a listen!

NMM: Uncaged

Posted on 21:00 by Unknown
I apologize I haven't blogged lately. I'm in the middle of a move and haven't really had the time (or access to the Internet). With summer camp at church starting up, it'll be harder to blog but I'm probably going to write the blog posts in advance and have them automatically published. Anyway, "New Music Monday" hasn't missed a beat and is here with a fresh song from one of my favorite country bands

The Zac Brown Band is back with an all new album, Uncaged, which will be out later this summer. However, the group has already released a single off the album which is bound to be a hit. "The Wind" is a classic, foot stomping song that's become a trademark of the band. Have a listen!

Say What?

Posted on 07:23 by Unknown
Usually, baby dolls are suppose to be cute and harmless. Well, I bet you've never seen one like this. Toys 'R Us is selling You and Me triplet dolls and one of them is causing a lot of controversy.

Many parents have complained to (and one has even sued) the toy chain after hearing the doll utter what they thought was the B-word. Toys 'R Us insisted it was just "babbling" but, after hearing it a couple times myself, it does sound like the word. What's worse is that some parents believe this isn't a problem and kids won't pick the saying up. I highly doubt that!

Have a listen for yourself!

NMM: Brendan MacFarlane

Posted on 08:28 by Unknown

When you think of Scotland, country music probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind. However, one teen from Perthshire is changing all that. Brendan MacFarlane is a very talented singer/songwriter who we'll be hearing from, no doubt.

MacFarlane attributes his love of music from hearing Hank Williams' ‘So Lonesome I Could Cry’ playing on his grandma's car stereo. He learned that song, line by line, until he knew it by heart. That turned out to also be a lasting memory of his grandma, who passed away in 2010. You may have seen Brendan before as a little kid who wowed people in a Chelsea, NYC guitar store...

Now a little older, MacFarlane has released his debut album, called The Road, and it's pretty darn good! It combines some gospel/soulful songs with a country and Scottish twang to them. Although he's not well-known at the moment The Sky Kid, a website that profiles young talent, is already calling him "Tennessee's best kept secret."

The video below is of a newer song, "Sat Down With The Devil." This song fits into the country/Southern Gospel category. Brendan even adds a little beatboxing to the mix. I tell you, you better watch out for this talented artist!
