Amazon's TV pilots Alpha House and Browsers | Photos: Amazon/Google Images |
Let's just say, these shows will make you miss your regular 'ol TV.
The first show I watched was Alpha House starring John Goodman. The show follows four U.S. Senators who live together in a house in Washington, D.C. Right off the bat, one of the characters - who was suppose to turn himself in to the Department of Justice - shouts about 15 'F' words and phrases after realizing he apparently overslept or something.
Another aspect I didn't like was Goodman's character is a senator from N.C. and the fact that the creators picked on N.C. by making Goodman's character one who apparently loves to eat and sleep - at least in the opening credits of the show. Between that and Goodman's horrible impersonation of a N.C. accent, it was a joke.
I watched all of about three or four minutes of this 25 minute episode and turned it off.
The next show I tried was called Browsers. This show is about four interns who get their "dream job" working at an online news company. The four have the job of browsing the Internet to pick up stories to be included (or "copied and pasted") on the company's website.
The show included too many musical numbers - well one was too many - but, luckily, didn't drop as many 'F'-bombs as the previous. Despite that, it was lackluster to say the least. I'd even go as far as to say I'd rather have my teeth pulled than to watch it.
These are only pilots but Amazon and the shows' creators are going to have to do alot more to sway this TV fan.
There's something to be said for curling up on the couch and watching your favorite regular TV show. These just don't cut it.
