This week's Oops Award winners are: DPS (Durham Public Schools), the city of Durham, and the state of North Carolina for the budget cuts coming to most (if not all) schools. It wasn't very hard deciding the winner because what they are doing is ridiculous. You probably recall that I blogged about this recently in the post "Unexplainable" and now I'm really fired up about the issue. Many teachers are becoming victims of this budget crunch when they really shouldn't be at all.
Hitting closer to home, I found out today that two teachers I have had in the past at Northern were being cut. Get this, one of the teachers is pregnant and should be due in just a couple of months. How is she going to manage that? Luckily, the other teacher being cut has another job set up, but all this shouldn't have happened in the first place. I just don't understand how the district can cut so many teachers from their jobs but, at the same time, be in the process of building three new schools and not being willing to cut salaries of top administrators. Does that make since to you?
